Obituary

Karen Margaret Telford, age 51, of Willow Lane, Wellington, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, following a long illness. She was born March 7, 1956, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and is the daughter of Doris Kabler Telford of Morehead, Kentucky, and the late George W. Telford. In addition to her mother, she is survived by two half sisters, Patricia Ruscher of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Nancy Edwards of Franklin, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. Karen graduated high school from Villa Madonna Academy in Crescent Springs, Kentucky; attended Maysville Community College receiving a degree in Art; and graduated from Morehead State University, magda cum laude, earning a bachelor and masters degree in art. She was honored as guest commencement speaker at her undergraduate commencement. She taught in MSU-S Art Department as an adjunct instructor before venturing into a co-op run art gallery business, -The Imaginatrium.- From the onset of illness, she developed a keen interest in therapeutic values of art, and became an outspoken advocate for healing arts programs, believing its viability. In recent years, she curated a -Healing Arts Exhibition,- combining her work with works by friends whose art expressed the power of coping with illness. The exhibit was shown in galleries in eastern Kentucky and southern Ohio over a three-year period. Karen was an active supporter of arts in the community and was a member of the Cave Run Arts Association. In recent years, she has received grants and awards for creativity in photography. She had a great love of Arabian Horses with 25 years of breeding and raising the beautiful animals. She acquired her first purebred Arabian stallion at the age of 16. There is no visitation. Memorials are suggested to The Lymphoma and Leukemia Cancer Society.
