Karen Denise Montgomery Gilliam, age 54, of Clayton Lane, Morehead, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 7, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born August 19, 1965, in Bakersfield, California, she was the daughter of the late Delmar L. Montgomery and Mary Elizabeth Ford Cheatwood.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Cheatwood.

Karen is survived by her husband, Danny R. Gilliam, Sr.; one daughter, Rita Watkins (Rodney) of Morehead, Kentucky; one granddaughter, Madison Watkins; two sisters, JoAnn Hallman of Alabama and Kathy Cherry of Florida; three brothers, Wayne Montgomery (Tonya) of Tennessee, Nathan Montgomery (Sue) of California, and Matthew Cheatwood (Jennifer) of Oklahoma.

Karen obtained two master's degrees and was a practicing licensed counselor at Sunrise Professional Counseling in Paris, Kentucky.  She was a lifelong advocate of helping children.  She loved ministering in prisons and helping those who needed it most.  Karen enjoyed crafting, crocheting, sewing, singing, and playing with her granddaughter.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her friends and family.

A celebration of life service will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2019, at Grace Fellowship Church with Pastor Thad Callahan officiating.  Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.  Braylin and Jase Hallman will be honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2019, at Grace Fellowship Church, 905 Clearfield Street, Morehead, KY 40351.
