Junior Purnell, age 83, of CCC Trial, Morehead, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at the Life Care Center in Morehead. Born May 19, 1932, in Carter County, he was a son of the late Bert and Cora Lee Fraley Purnell. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Emil Purnell, James Arthur Purnell, and Elmo Stigall. He is survived by one brother, Emery Allen Purnell of Morehead; two sisters, Delores (Lois) Purnell Smoak of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Barbara Sue Owens of Morehead; and numerous nieces and nephews. Junior was a carpenter and enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, making canes, refinishing furniture, and ginseng hunting. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Don Rivers officiating. Burial will follow in Ditney Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Elmo Stigall, Jr., Jon Stigall, Chris Stigall, Matthew Dailey, Jason Dailey, Matthew Crouch, and Jack Owens.
