Judy Carl Pennington

Judy Carl Pennington, age 77, of Morehead, passed away Friday, August 7, 2026, at UK St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead surrounded by her family.

Judy was born February 24, 1949, at Sharpsburg in Bath County to Ollie “Ottie” Buckler Day Planck and Carl McQuithy.

She was preceded in death by her stepdad, Lee Roy Day, on November 16, 1986, and her mother, Ollie Planck, on October 16, 2023. She was also preceded by aunts and uncles that were very close to her.

Judy is survived by her husband, Lowell Pennington, Jr., of 43 years. She is also survived by her two daughters, Nicky and Gordon “JJ” Jones of Clearfield and Lana Bowling of Independence; seven grandchildren, Justen Lowe, Macie Lowe, Georgie Mann, Bella Hamm, Zachary Jones, Carly Henderson, Cameron Brown; and nine great-grandchildren that she loved more than anything.

Also surviving are two stepchildren, Marilyn Walls and Mark Pennington, both of Michigan; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Judy worked at the Fuzzy Duck Coffee Shop at St. Claire Medical Center for years. Almost everyone knew her from seeing her there. She loved that job and enjoyed talking with people and making many new friends. No matter where she would go, she was recognized.

Her favorite things were decorating her home, shopping at Wal Mart, eating at Cracker Barrel, and going to Nicky’s in the evenings. She also loved visiting Lowell’s mom, Maxine, and sitting with her on the porch.

She thought there was nothing like her great-grandchildren. She loved each one of them and talked about them all the time. She always said she had a favorite and didn’t try to hide it either. She would say “Brentley is Mamaw’s little boy.”

Lowell was everything to her, as she was to him. They loved each other deeply and it will be sad not seeing them together. They were lucky to have each other and the family they had.

She is going to be missed greatly by many.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with Senior Pastor Joe Cline officiating. Burial will follow in the Lowell Pennington Family Cemetery on Big Brushy Road.

Pallbearers are Zachary Jones, Gordon Jones, Derek Mann, Brandon Loper, Cameron Brown, and Mikey Henderson. Honorary Pallbearers are Rusty Pennington, Baker Hollis, Brayden Henderson, and Brentley Loper.

Visitation for Judy Pennington will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, August 10, 2026, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
