Joy Elaine Brigner Ison, age 52, of Rock Fork Road, Morehead, KY, passed away Friday, January 7, 2011, at her home. Born May 4, 1958, in Dayton, Ohio, Joy is the daughter of the late Harold Gene Brigner and Georgia Ann (Pelfrey) McKee of Beaver, Ohio. She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Roma McKee, and a son, Matthew Gregory Brigner Ison, who passed away December 28, 1983. In addition to her mother, Joy is survived by her husband of 30 years, Edward Arnold -Eddie- Ison, and their children, Nicolette Elaine -Nikki- Brigner Ison Kuzman and husband David of Louisville; Zachary Edward -Zach- Brigner Ison of Morehead; and Samantha Catherine -Sam- Brigner Ison of Morehead. Other survivors include two brothers, Gregory Gene Brigner and wife Dawn of Beaver, OH, and Jeffery Lee Brigner and Kitty Maynard of Ashville, OH; two sisters, Sheryl Lynn Kahlor and husband Scott of Columbus, Ohio, and Anita Renee Brigner and husband Dr. Franklin Demint, Kingston, OH; and several nieces and nephews.Joy graduated from Morehead State University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Corrections. She also became a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) and worked at Holbrook Drugs and at Battson Drug for 17 years. Joy was an avid reader and loved decorating cakes and traveling, but her main focus was family. In addition to her own children, she was called -Mom- by many others. She was a member of New Horizons Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Rodney Bapst and Pastor David Keeton officiating. Burial will follow in the Clearfield Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Caleb Ison, Greg Brigner, Shane Ison, David Kuzman, Derek Brigner, Ryan Brigner, Jeremy Moss, and Jeff Brigner. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews Alex Sowry, Luke Keppler, Gabe Keppler, Toby Ison, Zack Sowry, Chad Brigner and Cody Moss. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
