Jolly Roger Burchett, 79, of Warren, Michigan, born in Olive Hill, passed away on May 31, 2012. He was the oldest son of the late W.P. and Ola Baker Burchett. He is survived by his son Kevin (Mary) Burchett; granddaughters, Raquel and Gabrielle; his partner, Ana Welch; sisters, Delores Cooley, Alice Mae (Robert) Shay, Betty Kay (Robert) Jacobs, Bertie Bond and Peggy (James) Hall; brothers, James A. (B0nnie), John Paul (Bonnie), Daniel Allen (Lillie), Gary W., David W. and Doug (Sandra); a long with a host of over 134 nieces, nephews and family members. As a youth, he was owner and operator of Jolly-s Popcorn Stand located on Main Street in Morehead. He was a retired teacher from Cass Tech High School in Detroit, Michigan. He earned his BA from Morehead State University and his MA from Wayne State University in Detroit. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korea era. He loved attending family gatherings where you could always count on him to tell a funny story, joke or stump you with his math problems. Memorial services for Jolly Roger Burchett will be on Saturday, September 1, at 1:00, at Globe Christian Church. Visitation will be from 12-1 preceding the service. He lies in rest with his parents at the Baker Family Cemetery in Olive Hill. Full military rites will be observed. Visit jollyroger.burchett.forevermissed.com to view his memorial.
