Johnny E. Howard, age 68, of Bayou Lane, Salt Lick, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 9, 2008, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky, after battling pancreatic cancer for nearly a year. Born November 9, 1939, in Harlan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Ralph and Opal Matheny Howard. He is the beloved husband of Flossie Marie Arnett Howard, whom he married May 27, 1961, and devoted father of his daughter, Seanna Lynn Howard of Monroe, Ohio. He is also survived by his brother, Josh R. Howard of Cincinnati, Ohio; sisters, Jessie Lee Wright of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Donna Snow of Merritt Island, Florida; uncle, William E. Matheny of Seth, West Virginia, and many dear cousins, nieces, and nephews. Johnny was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and taught physical education for 32 years, primarily in Lakota Local School District in Hamilton, Ohio. Since his retirement in 1993, he and his wife have enjoyed serving the Lord, fishing at Cave Run Lake, and spending time with family and friends. They are members of Lakeview Community Church. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mike Pennington and the Rev. James Allen officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Howard, Jr., Howard Wright, Douglas Howard, Jim Wright, Johnny Ray Slusher, Jr., Christopher Arnett, and Mark Arnett. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
