Obituary

Johnny Austin Carter, age 78, of Austin Road, Olive Hill, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 6, 2022, at his home.

Austin was born February 5, 1944, at Ault, Kentucky, on Porter Creek, in Carter County, the son of Claude Oral Carter and Hazel LeMaster Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Zane Carter; two sisters, Evangeline Carter and Freida Carter; and son-in-law, Baxter Keith Stevens.

On November 10, 2021, Linda Oakley Carter, his wife of 54 years, whom he married on April 15, 1967, awakened in the arms of Jesus.

Austin is survived by three children, Dovie Stevens, John "JB" Carter, both of Olive Hill, and Stacey Meyer and husband Evan of Butler, Kentucky; his pride and joy granddaughter, Addison Hope "Addi" Meyer; and one sister, Treda Morman of Argillite, Kentucky.

He also leaves nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.  In addition, he will also be remembered by many others whose lives were enriched by him through his work and as a Christian and pastor.

Austin retired from Morehead State University, where he was employed for 24 years in the Physical Plant. Prior to working at the university, Austin was well-known as a barber for 15 years at Bo's Barber Shop in Morehead and later in his own shop on Christy Creek.  A devout Christian, he pastored local churches including Shady Grove, Haldeman, and Oak Hill Church of God.

He was a member of the Elliottville Fire Department for many years, delivered Meals On Wheels, and enjoyed playing his guitar and singing gospel music. He will be greatly missed and remembered with love.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Evan Meyer and Pastor Ron Clatos officiating.   He will be laid to rest beside his wife at the Manning Chapel Cemetery on Mocabee Creek Road, Olive Hill, Kentucky.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Waddell, Rick Barker, Gary Carter, Jason Carter, Sonny Tackett, Paul O'Daniel and Waldo Skaggs.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
