Johnny Melvin Burton, age 76, of North Blair Avenue, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2007, at Pioneer Trace Nursing Home in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. Born July 25, 1931, in Floyd County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Bill and Iva Lee Burton. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Elvnia Burton; two great-grandsons, Hayden Dean Spivey and Michael Gene Jolly; and one brother, Bill Burton. He is survived by seven sons, John Paul Burton of Columbus, Georgia, Clyde Melvin Burton of Lexington, Kentucky, John Wesley Burton of Menifee County, Kentucky, Floyd Dee Burton of Fleming County, Kentucky, Eddie Dean Burton, of Lexington, Kentucky, Woody Albert Burton of Morehead, Kentucky, and Richard Wayne Burton of Clearfield, Kentucky; 3 daughters, Janet Louise Benton of Fleming County, Kentucky, and Rebecca Lynn Burton and Roseanna Elvnia Burton; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Johnny was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and an employee of Local Sanitation for 35 years. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Bro. Herbie Stallard officiating. Burial will follow in the Clearfield Cemetery with full military rites conducted at the graveside by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Richard Burton and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
