John Russell Knight, age 72, of Morehead, formerly of Georgetown, passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at his residence.

Born June 13, 1951, in Hazard, John was the only child of the late John Fitch Knight and Dorothy "Dot" Fields Knight.

He is survived by his wife, Leona King Knight; two sons, Wesley Knight (Stacy) of Union, Kentucky, and Nicholas Knight of Morehead; six grandchildren, Olivia, Miles and Jaiden Knight and Robert, Nora and Charlotte Wilke; several aunts and cousins; and other extended family and friends.

John was a retired building equipment mechanic for the U.S. Postal Service and a union official for 26 years. He was a former member of Masonic Lodge No. 001 in Lexington.

John loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and sharing his experiences of traveling, exploring, and seeking adventures with family. He was a car enthusiast and was known for his love for Disney and McDonalds, hiking, collecting stamps and antiques.  He lived each day to the fullest and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Ronald Johns officiating. Burial will follow in the King Family Cemetery on Rosedale Road.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, 1500 College Way, Lexington, KY 40502 or St. Claire Hospice, 222 Medical Center, Morehead, KY 40351.
