John Stewart 'Jay' Roberts, age 55, of North Wilson Avenue, Morehead, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015. He was born January 23, 1959, in Lexington, a son of the late Dr. Norman Norris Roberts and Margie Lee Stewart Roberts. Besides his parents, Jay was also preceded in death a brother, Norman Lee Roberts on July 8, 2006. He is survived by two daughters, Abigaile Stewart Roberts of Salt Lick and Patricia Sue Roberts of Morehead; one granddaughter, Emma Grace Crouch of Morehead; two brothers, Paul Garred Roberts and wife Mary of Morehead and William Warner 'Willie' Roberts and wife Deanna of Farmers; one aunt, Shirley Dee Ellington of Morehead; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jay graduated from Morehead State University with a bachelor's degree in geology. He was a former environmental inspector for the Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Waste Management and had been an inspector for the Division of Surface Mining in Prestonsburg. An avid outdoorsman and amateur geologist, Jay enjoyed all of nature especially flowers and trees. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Allan Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in New Alfrey Cemetery.
