John Archie Evans, age 82, of U.S. 60 West, Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away Friday, March 20, 2009. He was born April 27, 1926, in Carter County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late William and Sarah Bailey Evans. Also preceding him in death was the mother of his children, Etta Bauers Evans. Surviving are two sons-Jeffrey Dale Evans and wife Fairlene of Morehead, Kentucky, and Gregory Lee Evans and wife Tammy of Salt Lick, Kentucky, and three daughters-Brenda S. Patton and husband Larry, Kay Stamper and husband Bill, and Pamela Whisman and husband Willis, all of Olive Hill, Kentucky. Also surviving are four grandchildren-Brian Stamper, Jamie Messer, Angie Schmidt, and Ashley Perry, and three great grandchildren-Eli Stamper, Jacob Perry and Ariel Messer. Mr. Evans served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He retired from the General Refractory Company in Olive Hill, Kentucky, after 23 years of service. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill with full military rites conducted by Olive Hill American Legion Post No. 138. Pallbearers will be Mikeal Barker, Frank Harris, Brian Stamper, Carl Fultz, Joe Perry, and Tim Messer.
