John J. Bauer, age 61, of Ashland, Ohio, is now safe in the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. John died Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at Hospice Houser of Ashland in Ashland, Ohio. Born August 31, 1949, in Mansfield, Ohio, he was the son of the late John Bauer and Etta Louis Beasley Bauer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved father-in-law, Jesse Owens, Sr. John is survived by his wife, Shelia (Chloe-) Owens-Bauer, whom he married October 31, 1981, recently sharing their 29th wedding anniversary; his loving sister, Etta Louise Bauer (Danny) Albert of Mansfield, Ohio; a nephew, John Pence of Marion, Ohio; and a niece, Barbara (David) Sieving of Butler, Ohio. Also surviving are three great nieces, Jessika Sieving, Mikayla and Kelsey Chew; five great nephews, Andrew, Caleb (Tiffany), Jacob, Joseph, and Isaac Sieving; one great-great niece, Evelyn Solace Sieving; his treasured cousins, Carroll and Marcella Beasley; and many loving friends. John attended Ashland High School excelling in wood shop where he developed a lifelong love of woodworking. John was a retired machinist from Akron Brass of Wooster, Ohio, after 28 years of service and was a former employee at U-Brand Corporation. He was a member of the 25 Year Plus Club at Akron Brass and was a lifetime member of the IAM 1581 Lodge in Wooster, Ohio. In addition to woodworking, John was passionate about deer hunting, vintage cars, car shows, and spending time with his wife. Chloe- will miss the love of her life, but is comforted knowing in heaven John has no more pain and suffering. He has truly been made brand new. Visitation will be Friday, November 5, 2010, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby, Ohio, with a celebration service at 8 p.m. with Pastor Jim Luedeman of Vermillion Baptist Church and Chaplain Alden J. Thiebeau officiating. John will be privately entombed at the Brown Cemetery in the Owens Family Mausoleum in Morehead, Kentucky, at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
