John M. Alcorn, age 82, of Oakdale Drive, Clearfield, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away October 7, 2015, at Markey Cancer Center in Lexington. Born November 18, 1932, in Ft. Myers, Florida, he was a son of the late John Roy and Margaret Troy Alcorn. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Peggy Porter and Doris Christianson. John is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Edna Rose Spitznagel Alcorn; one son, John Michael Alcorn and wife Melissa of Morehead; two daughters, Karen Sue Scott of Danville and Kimberly Forrest and husband Philip of LaGrange; and six grandchildren, Shelby Rose Forrest, John Nicholas Alcorn, Jack Tanner Forrest, Philip Tyler Forrest, Zachary Michael Alcorn, and Brandon Scott. John was a U.S. Army veteran, a C.P.A. and a retired Morehead State University professor of accounting. Involved in numerous campus and community activities, he was a Theta Chi advisor for many years and had been the treasurer for Gideons International, First Freewill Baptist Church and Rowan County Public Library. John and Edna are members of Crosspoint Church. Known for his quiet and nurturing manner, John's greatest joy centered on his faith and family. He will be remembered for his compassion for all of God's people, his dedication and hard work, and for always doing the right thing. His spirit will endure in the many lives he touched. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Daniel Lucas officiating. Grandchildren Shelby Forrest and Nick Alcorn will provide eulogies. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post 126. Pallbearers: Nick Alcorn, Tanner Forrest, Dan Markwell, Bodie Stevens, Phillip Forrest, Jeremy Brown, Tim McGill, Craig Dennis. Honorary Pallbearers: Luther Adams and Bill Patrick. Visitation is 5 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with a Theta Chi Chapter Eternal Ceremony presented at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Gideons International. Visitation: Saturday, October 10, 2015, 5 p.m., and Theta Chi Chapter Eternal Ceremony, 8 p.m. Funeral: Sunday, October 11, 2015, 2 p.m., Northcutt & Son Memorial Chapel Interment: Brown Cemetery
