Joe C. Gunnell, age 73, of Bull Fork Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at the V.A. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Born August 27, 1939, in Floyd County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Isaac and Martha Chaffins Gunnell. Joe is survived by his wife, Joyce Gibson Gunnell; two daughters, Laura Ann Sanders of Morehead, Kentucky, and Candy Tackett and husband Don of LaGrange, Kentucky; two brothers, Foley Gunnell and Stevie Gunnell, both of Knott County, Kentucky; one sister, Brenda Gunnell of Floyd County, Kentucky; and four grandchildren, Eden Sanders, Ian Sanders, Sophie Tackett, and Bella Tackett. Joe was a U.S. Marine veteran and a retired carpenter from Pack's Inc., where he was an employee for 20 years. He was a member of the Meta Baptist Church in Meta, Kentucky. Joe enjoyed his dogs, Sugar and Scooter; his cat, Cry Baby; fishing; and woodworking, especially making church crosses. Most of all, however, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mike Parr officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Pallbearers will be Don Tackett, Ian Sanders, Justin Keibler, Tim Slone, Tom Gibson, and Jeremy Gunnell. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Visitation: Friday, January 4, 2013, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Funeral: Friday, January 4, 2013, at 1 p.m. Interment: Brown Cemetery
