Joe Curtis, age 95, of Rawcel Heights, Morehead, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born April 16, 1921, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Jesse and Flora Cooper Curtis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death three brothers, Ellis, Piercy, and Clayton Curtis; two sisters, Francis Markwell and Lula Kissick; his first wife, Nancy Inez Kegley; and second wife, Edna Marie Black Curtis. Joe is survived by one son, Mike (Rosemary) Curtis; one step son, Donald Ray (Shelby) Jones, all of Morehead; two grandchildren, Laurel Curtis Wood of Richmond and Garrett Michael Curtis of Georgetown; two step grandchildren, Donna Thomas and Eddie Jones, both of Morehead; three great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; a special niece, Hattie Little of Morehead; and friend, Peggy Sons of Morehead. Joe retired from Morehead State University following 30 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, especially grouse, Muskie fishing, raising pheasants, and walking in the woods. Graveside services will be conducted 12 noon Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Caudill Cemetery, Stork Street, Morehead, with Bro. Gerald Saunders officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
