Obituary

JoAnn Scruggs Jones, age 65, of Bronson Forest Drive, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Born October 24, 1947, in Hazard, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Geneva Collins Scruggs. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy Scruggs. JoAnn is survived by her husband, Ron Jones, whom she wed January 31, 1969; two daughters, Ann Marie Francis and husband Tim of Lexington, Kentucky, and Jenny Burch and husband Kevin of Walton, Kentucky; and five grandchildren, Maddie Francis, Caroline Francis, Gabe Francis, Carter Burch and Cooper Burch. Other survivors include one brother, Jerry Scruggs and wife Jeanie of Morehead, Kentucky; two nieces, Jessi Ferguson and husband Jeff of Morehead, Kentucky, and Missy Brashear and husband Marty of Hazard, Kentucky; other loving family members; and many dear friends. JoAnn graduated from Breckinridge Training School and received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Morehead State University. She was a social worker for twenty years at Pathways and a former homebound teacher for the Rowan County school system. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. JoAnn was a faithful member of Johnson First Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Johnson First Church of God with Rev. Ben Furman, Rev. Mitchell Burch, and Rev. Johnny Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery. Pallbearers: Tim Francis, Kevin Burch, Jeff Ferguson, Brad Collins, Randy Steele, Steve Mayhorn, Mark Poston, Doug Jones, Larry Johnson, Glenn Burch, Jeff Fannin, and Andrew Owens. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals and after 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Johnson First Church of God. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
