Joan Meadows, of Morehead, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2017, in the presence of her family. She was born on October 19, 1932, and was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. She is survived by her husband Bob to whom she was married for 63 years and her five children: Traci Paxson, Terry (Cathy) Meadows, Todd (Claire) Meadows, Thom (Betsy) Meadows, and Troy (Suzanne) Meadows. Fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren will also miss her dearly. Joan was a good wife and excellent mother as evidenced by her own children and the 28 foster children whom she nurtured. She exhibited a special gift with young children and she taught at the Morehead United Methodist Church (MUMC) preschool for eighteen years until she retired in 2001. She also taught children how to swim. She also cared deeply about people in need and helped found the Bethany Inn operated by St. Claire hospital. Bethany Inn provided room and shelter for the family of patients who lived quite a distance from Morehead and needed short term accommodations. She also served on the Rowan County Foster Care Review Board. She traveled to Costa Rica four times on mission. She also served one term as president of the Morehead Woman's Club. Joan graduated from Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1950 and from Ohio University in 1954. Finally, she loved painting and flowers; she arranged the flowers for the MUMC worship services for 32 years. We will miss her friendship and wry good humor. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017, at the Morehead United Methodist Church with the Rev. Aaron Mansfield officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, November 24, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Sign guestbook at www.northcuttandson.com
