Jo Anne
Keeton Mcbrayer
Nov 30, 1941 — Dec 29, 2015
Jo Anne Keeton McBrayer, age 74, of Highway 174, Olive Hill, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at the Carter Nursing and Rehab Center in Grayson. Born November 30, 1941, in Clearfield, she was the daughter of the late Chester A. Keeton and Cleo Olina Hall Keeton. Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, J. Douglas Keeton. She is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Leigh (Phillip) Madden of Olive Hill; two sons, Stephen McBrayer of Olive Hill and Byron L. McBrayer of Alpharetta, Georgia; and five grandchildren; Asa Madden of Olive Hill, Corrissa Jo Grubb of Denver, Colorado, Gillian McBrayer of San Francisco, California, and Sawyer McBrayer of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Patricia LeighAnne McBrayer of Olive Hill. Other survivors include one brother, Chester (Jan) Keeton of Lexington; extended family members; and friends. Jo Anne was a 1959 graduate of Morehead High School and earned an Associate Degree in Accounting. She worked for Honeywell Foundation in Wabash, Indiana, for 15 years and retired from Link Belt Construction Equipment Inc. in Lexington. She was a member of the Morehead United Methodist Church, where she volunteered for various church activities and was a member of the Builders Club. Jo Anne had also been a member of the Morehead-Rowan County Arts Council and Class of 59ers and served as Brownie Scout leader and Boy Scout Leader assistant. The following words are a tribute to Jo Anne from her children: Jo Anne, a mother, grandmother and an artist! She always wanted to live life outside the lines, but still follow the rules. She crisscrossed the country hitting both coasts and even crossed the ocean to visit countries overseas. When life would not fit traditional roles, she would just redefine her circumstances! She felt her greatest work of arts were painting her children, painting them so they would think outside the box, love with deep passion and have kindness for others. She was a woman who loved others, would pinch a penny, pay her bills and showed kindness over any other thought. She had compassion for strangers, strong determination, and could be stubborn as a mule! She is a true definition of love, how lucky we were to call her Mom, Mamma and Granny! She was a true catalyst for change helping to build up our family. She led by example, taking what life gave her, without much fuss or complaining. She never had a fondness for dogs but came to love her Red, also known as Houndini, who brought her such comfort when her Mother passed. Red, pampered with cheeseburgers on a regular basis! She will be missed, but thought of often by her children and grandchildren, as we see her traits such as determination and the excitement for adventure and ability to embrace change in our family members. She had great contentment watching as her heritage stepped out and spread their wings! How lucky we all are, were and will be to have had a mother like Jo Anne McBrayer… she was ahead of her time. XOXOXOXO, to the moon and back! A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, December 31, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Eric Patterson officiating.
