Jewell Day Call, 87, of Sunset Road, Hillsboro, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Born April 22, 1928, in Mt. Hope, he was the only child of the late Elbert Brooks Call and Maudie Cooper Saunders Call. He is survived by his wife, Lela Mae Flora Call; one son, Stevie and wife Donna Call of Hillsboro; one daughter, Connie and husband Mike Honaker of Paris; and four grandchildren, Alicia Murray, Amber Call, Paige Honaker, and Brooke Honaker. Jewell was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, served as Fleming County Judge-Executive for two terms; was a former Deputy Sheriff of Fleming County; and a former employee of the Kentucky State Highway Department. He was a longtime member of the Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Department. Visitation is Saturday, August 29, 2015, from noon until 3 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following at 3 p.m. with Pastor Harley Sexton, Jr., Brother Richard Engle, and Brother Gerald Saunders officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Full military honors will be presented at the graveside by W.N. Fant American Legion Post No. 5 and Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834. Legion members will also serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to an animal shelter of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Hutton Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
