Jerry Lee Owens, age 69, of CCC Trail, Morehead, Kentucky, husband of Barbara Sue Purnell Owens, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. Born September 12, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of the late John and Bertha Craft Owens. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Sonny Owens and Billy Owens. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Sue Purnell Owens, whom he married November 26, 1966; one son, Jack Lee Owens of Grayson, Kentucky; one daughter, Babetta Dailey and husband Wayne of Olive Hill, Kentucky; and two grandsons, Carson Matthew Dailey and Jason Wayne Dailey. Other survivors include two brothers, George and Jo Owens of Covington, Kentucky, and Tim and Cecil Owens of Florence, Kentucky; five sisters, Rosie McCarver of Orange, Texas, Violet and Ray Garneu of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, Linda and Tim Paynter of Cold Springs, Kentucky, Wanda and Don Lawerance of Aurora, Indiana, Darlene and Buck Cullum of Newport, Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry was a graduate of the Danville School for the Deaf. He was a retired pressman for the Cincinnati Enquirer after more than 20 years of service. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim Varney officiating. Burial will follow in the Ditney Cemetery. Pallbearers: George Owens, Tim Owens, Jack Owens, Matthew Dailey, Jason Dailey, Elmo Stigall, Jr., Matt Hildreth, and Ryan Hildreth. Honorary pallbearers: Willie Dailey, Emery Purnell, and Jon Winters. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, Kentucky.
