Jerry Gibbs, age 80, a resident of Lexington, KY, for the last 50 years, passed away at his log cabin in Montgomery County on Friday, November 30, 2018, due to an extended illness. Jerry was born in Jeffersonville, KY, on October 7, 1938. He was the son of the late Russell Greene Gibbs and Margaret Ann King Gibbs. Jerry was a retired electrical contractor, having run his own companies for 50+ years. In addition to electrical work around central Kentucky, Jerry had a passion for passing on his trade to young men and even tried his hand at breeding and training thoroughbred racehorses. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters: Russell Gibbs. Jr., Omar Gibbs, Shirley Gibbs, Ethel Harris, Alice Harris, and Ruth Saunders. Jerry also was preceded in death by his daughter: Tamara Eileen Gibbs; stepson: Jeff Armstrong; and grandson: Austin Armstrong. Jerry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jean Anderson Gibbs of Lexington, KY; three sons: Michael Gibbs of Hastings, FL, Sandy Gibbs of Camargo, KY, Tim Gibbs of Ashland, KY, and stepson: Mark Armstrong of Winchester, KY. Jerry is also survived by grandchildren: Sandy Reffitt of Hastings, FL, Dr. Michael Jarrod Gibbs of Anaheim, CA, Leah Armstrong of Lexington, KY, Jeffrey Armstrong of Lexington, KY, Ashley Branson of Georgetown, KY, Lauren Joseph of Viper, KY; and great grandchildren: Timothy, Jazmine and Annalei Allen, Benjamin Reffitt, Skyler Lewis, Alyssa and Wyatt May, Addalyn Armstrong, Skyler and Allison Branson. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at the Hutton Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Hale officiating. Burial will follow at Prince Cemetery on Maxey Flat Road. Pallbearers will be friends and family. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, from 11 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. at Hutton Funeral Home, 7634 Hillsboro Road, Hillsboro, KY 41049.
