Jean Flannery, age 88, of Hanover Towers, Lexington, formerly of Morehead, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016, at U. K. Chandler Medical Center in Lexington. She was born May 12, 1928, in Rowan County, a daughter of the late Ernest James and Delphia Zane Atkins Flannery. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Barbara Haney Planck and Roger Douglas Haney; three sisters, Bernell Drexler, Pauline Marras, and Joleen Lehman; and two brothers, John Carl Flannery and James Ernest 'Jimmy' Flannery. Jean is survived by two sons, David (Paulette) Haney of Morehead and Donald (Theda) Haney of North Carolina; two daughters, Rosemary (Mike) Curtis and Jelana (Jack) Lewis, all of Morehead; 11 grandchildren, Lisa Wagoner, Shannon Howard, Cheri Harmon, Chad Planck, Eric Bucher, Laurel Curtis Wood, Garrett Curtis, Jordan Haney, Britton Lewis, Austin Lewis, and Brandon Lewis; 9 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. Other survivors include three sisters, Lorene Hogge of Blue Creek, Ohio, Coleen Garrett of Greenville, Ohio, and Lola Anglin of Scotts Hill, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. She graduated from Breckenridge Training School and attended Morehead State University. Jean was a retired Morehead State University residence hall director and was active in civic organizations and frequent volunteer. She was a member of First Church of Christ Science in Lexington (serving as board member), P.E.O. Sisterhood, and Democratic Women's Club. Jean was also a passionate volunteer at the Lexington Philharmonic, Shriner's Hospital, and Morehead State University Adult Literacy Program. She enjoyed playing cards, working crossword puzzles, reading, watching television game shows, line dancing, and traveling. A celebration of life will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating and assisted by grandson Austin Lewis. Pallbearers: Chad Planck, Garrett Curtis, Jordan Haney, Britton, Austin, and Brandon Lewis Visitation is 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Visitation: Thursday, September 22, 2016, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral: Friday, September 23, 2016, at 1 p.m. Interment: Mabry Cemetery
