JC Spencer

JC Spencer, age 92, of Morehead, passed away Saturday, July18, 2026, at U.K. St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.

Born April 28, 1934, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Russell and Daisy Moore Spencer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Dalphene Spencer; step-mother, Ettie Spencer of Ohio; one daughter, Sharon Kay Spencer Baugus of Morehead; one son-in-law, Danny Cook of Morehead; and two sisters, Ann Spradlin and Linda Jones, both of Ohio.

He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Rusty) Lindon of West Liberty, Sharlene Cook of Morehead; one son, Jeffrey (Teena) Spencer of West Liberty; one special caregiver and granddaughter, Bridget Bowman; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Other survivors include two brothers, Darvin Spencer of Wellington, and Ova Spencer of Melvin, Kentucky; six sisters, Coletta Bolen of McGuffey, Ohio, Betty Tuttle of Willard, Ohio, Muriel Johnson of Willard, Ohio, Ruth Howard of Jamestown, Indiana, Gail Sowers and Pat Henry, both of Willard, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

JC was employed by National Mines, where he worked in mine safety for many years. He was recently named an Honorary Kentucky Colonel in recognition of his efforts during the Scotia Mine Disaster. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, birdwatching, attending bluegrass festivals, and, most of all, spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon, Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jamie Brunk officiating. Burial will follow in New Alfrey Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Logan Spencer, Tanner Bowman, Ryan Rowe, Trevor Potter, Jason Cook, Tyler Potter.

Honorary pallbearers: Dwayne Morris, Katlin Haney, Tommy Potter, Newell Lindon, and Jordan Combs.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
