Obituary

Janice Diane May Parker, age 93, of Hamilton Road, Morehead, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. She was born February 9, 1925, at Hayes Branch in Rowan County, a daughter of the late Henry and Jessie Johnson May. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Denver Glenmore Parker, on November 28, 1987; one son, Fred Puckett; one daughter-in-law, Janet Wilson Puckett; two granddaughters, Teesha Ann Parker and Donna Gail Puckett; two infant granddaughters; six brothers, Hershel, James, Merl, Jerry, George, and Arlie, and special friend and sister-in-law, Hazel May. Janice is survived by two daughters, Deborah K. Fannin and husband John and Linda Hamm and husband Robert, all of Morehead; seven sons, Harvey Puckett and wife Shirley of Greenwich, Ohio, Hershel "Tony" Puckett of Union City, Indiana, Linton Parker and wife Ramona of Flemingsburg; Glen Tee Parker, Sr., Joseph Parker, Sr., Jeffery Parker, and Cliffton Parker, all of Morehead, as well as many grandchildren, great- and great-great grandchildren. Other survivors include two sisters, Eulalia Blevins and Martha Alice Raikes, and four brothers, Sam, Vernon, Lansford, and John W. May, all of Morehead, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. During World War II, Janice moved to Northern Indiana to work in a factory sewing uniforms for the military and later worked as a waitress there until she returned to Rowan County around 1943. A creative person, Janice enjoyed writing songs (and actually had some published), listening to Elvis music, embroidering and sewing. She also loved the outdoors, working with her flowers, gardening, walking in the woods and using various plants as herbs. She loved her family, children and grandchildren and was a dear friend to many. A woman of faith, Janice was baptized in Cave Run Lake by Pastor Winston McClurg of the House of Prayer church and sometimes attended other churches in the community. A celebration of life service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with Pastor Jeff Fannin officiating. Burial will follow in the Parker Cemetery on Little Perry Road, Morehead. Sons, grandsons, and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
