Janice Faye
(Caudill) Vanhook
Jun 8, 1941 — May 6, 2026
Janice Faye Caudill-Vanhook, age 84, of Morehead, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at UK-St. Claire HealthCare.
Born June 8, 1941, in Morehead, she was the daughter of the late Everett Caudill and Anna Davis Caudill. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Vanhook; her son, Mike Vanhook; three brothers, Virgil (Olive) Caudill, Harold (Edna) Caudill, and Delbert Caudill; two sisters, Chloie (Billie) Brown and her twin Joyce (James) Black.
Janice is survived by her devoted daughter, Jackie Vanhook; cousins, Charlotte Hall and Sue Mabry; and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Special friends whom she loved and made everlasting friendships with through the years include Sandy White, Ermine Hogge, and Linda Caudill; and her Big 4 Lumber family, Kim Allen, Roxanne Lewis, Donna Wallace, Ray Griffith, and Tim Williams.
After graduating high school, Janice went to work for Cowden Manufacturing as a personnel secretary, where she dedicated 33 years of service. She later worked for Community Alternative for 10 years and then began working for Big 4 Lumber, where she remained for the last 20 years until her retirement in July 2024. Even after retiring, she continued working from home over the past two years because of her dedication and love for her work.
Big 4 Lumber was more than a workplace to Janice — it was family. She dearly loved each and every employee. She was known for her passion-driven work ethic, attention to detail, and determination to make sure every task was completed perfectly and in proper order. Organized and dependable, Janice always made certain all her "ducks were in a row."
She treasured reconnecting with old friends and making new ones everywhere she went. Janice seemed to know everyone in the county and surrounding communities through casual conversations, kindness, and laughter. Many evenings she would come home sharing stories from her day, making it sound more like a gathering of friends than a day at work.
Janice loved reading and was a frequent visitor of the library, often returning home with a bag full of books. Her greatest joy, however, was baking cakes and desserts. Trying new recipes and perfecting every detail became one of her favorite pastimes. Whether it was the height of a cake, the flavor, or the icing, everything had to meet her standards — and if it didn't, she would simply start over. She especially loved sharing her baked goods with others, often making cakes or pies "for no reason" other than believing someone might appreciate them.
Janice will be greatly missed, and her memory will live on through the love she shared with family, friends, coworkers, and all who knew her.
