James Roscoe Perkins, age 86, of Taylor, Michigan, formerly of Rowan County, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Heritage Hospital in Taylor, Michigan Born January 20, 1926, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Eddie Morton and Sarah Gregory Perkins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Perkins, an infant, and Virgie Jones, who passed away in 2003. James is survived by his wife of 64 years, Zora Perry Perkins; two sons, James Edward Perkins of Jefferson, Georgia, and Barry Richard Perkins of Bradenton, Florida; one daughter, Rita Ellen Boyd of Taylor, Michigan; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are seven brothers and sisters, Lenora Murphy of Morehead, Kentucky, Dessie Swimm of Allen Park, Michigan, William 'Bill' Perkins of Dayton, Ohio, Clayton Millard Perkins of Morehead, Kentucky, Jesse Perkins of Wemptka, Alabama, Robert 'Bob' Perkins of Morehead, Kentucky, and Myrtle Terrell of Morehead, Kentucky, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. James Roscoe courageously served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was the recipient of both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He retired from Wyandotte Chemicals after nearly 30 years of dedicated service as an employee and union steward. A very religious man, James was a devout member of Gateway Church of Christ in Southgate, Michigan. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jesse Perkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Cemetery with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Family members will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, Kentucky. Visitation: Wednesday, December 19, 2012, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Funeral: Thursday, December 20, 2012, at 11 a.m. Interment: Jones Cemetery
