James "Jim" Nelson Smith, Sr., age 74, of Open Fork Road, Morehead, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2023, at his residence.

Born March 18, 1949, in Morehead, he was the son of the late John Edward and Juanita Stewart Smith.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ed Smith and Gene Smith.

He is survived by his wife of  46 years, Pamela "Pam" Wilson Smith; three children:  Jimmy Smith, Jr., and Tammy Burford of Hillsboro, West Virginia, Kevin Smith and Missy of Morehead, and Scott Smith and Dianah of Morehead; seven grandchildren:  Caleb, Brady, Matt, Laihla, Makayla, Katrina and Aaron; five great-grandchildren; and his faithful doggie, Arlo.

Other survivors include two sisters, Kathy Smith and Pat Rohloff, both of Mondovi, Wisconsin, extended family, and friends.

Jim retired from GTE as an installer/repairman after 29 years.  He enjoyed hunting, 4-wheeling, gardening, and playing pool, board games, and card games.  Family was everything to him, especially the grandchildren who made his life so happy.  His memory will be greatly cherished and he will be sadly missed.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Northcutt & Son  Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Andy Lands officiating.  Burial will follow in Smith Cemetery on Open Fork Road.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Smith, Scott Smith, Caleb Smith, Brady Smith, Dickie Blair, Blake Stevens, Mike Wilson, and Jerry Turner.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Smith, Matt Smith, Matt Faw, and Cameron Moten.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
