James Anthony Mathis, age 51, of Old Hwy 172, West Liberty, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015, at Morgan County ARH in West Liberty. He was born April 22, 1964, in Sacramento, California, a son of the late J. Clement Mathis and Barbara Ann Howard Mathis Stevens. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother and one niece. He is survived by four children, James Clement Mathis and Danielle Antonia Steele-Mathis, both of West Liberty, Desiree Rose Mathis and Jeffery Mathis, both of Flemingsburg; three grandchildren, James Malachi Mathis, J. C. 'Biggie' Mathis, and Chanse 'Smalls' Williams-Mathis; two sisters, Eileen Rhodes of Cottage Grover, Oregon, and Heather Woody of Morehead; and three nieces and four nephews. James was a mechanic and certified satellite technician. He was an employee of Morehead Electric for a number of years. A private family service will be held at a later date.
