James Arthur 'Jimmy' Purnell, 71, of Edgemoor, SC, formerly of Rowan County, passed away August 30, 2013, at his home. Born July 29, 1942, in Carter County, he was a son of the late Bert and Cora Lee Fraley Purnell. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Emil Purnell and Elmo Stigall. Jimmy is survived by his wife of 44 years, Ann Trexler Purnell; three children, Angel (Matt) Hildreth, Jimmy (Angela) Purnell, and Butch (Debbie) Purnell, all of Edgemoor, SC; two sisters, Deloris Smoak of Charlotte, NC, and Barbara Sue Owens of Morehead; two brothers, Junior and Emery Purnell, both of Morehead; 13 grandchildren; one great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jimmy served 7 years in the 82nd Airborne Infantry Division in Fort Bragg, NC. He loved his family and fishing. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. September 7, 2013, at Ditney Cemetery with Brother Herbert D. Lewis officiating.
