James Matthew "Jim" Smith, age 53, of Morehead, passed away Friday, May 4, 2018, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. He was born May 9, 1964, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, the son of Lena Smith Middleton of Morehead and the late James Dallas Smith. In addition to his mother, Jim is survived by his wife, Tessa Peyton Smith, and two daughters, Jayda Lynn Smith and Myla Rose Smith, all of Morehead. Other survivors include one brother, Christopher Todd Smith, of Connecticut, and one sister, Cheryl Ann Grimes, of Mt. Morris, Michigan. Jim was a U.S. Navy veteran and a loving father, husband, and son. A high school basketball player, he also enjoyed bowling, playing football and being outdoors. Most of all, he adored his daughters and cherished his time spent with them. Jim's presence will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
