James W. (Jim) Osborne, age 80, of Circle Drive, Morehead, Kentucky, husband of the late Gaye Osborne, passed away Friday, September 21, 2012, at the Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana, Kentucky. He was born September 11, 1932, at Melvin, Kentucky, in Floyd County, a son of the late William and Ida Mae Hall Osborne. Besides his parents, was preceded in death by two brothers, Freeman and Victor Osborne. On September 26, 1957, Jim and his high school sweetheart, Greta Gaye Lafferty, were united in marriage and spent most of their fifty years together in Morehead until her death on February 21, 2008. For the last several years, Jim has also spent much time in Cynthiana, Kentucky, to be near his loving daughter, Jama Gaye Osborne Rose and her husband Dustin, and his beloved eight-year-old grandson, Jameson, whom he called J.D., his 'Best Buddy.' Jim is also survived by two brothers, Edward Douglas Osborne and wife Inez Fern of Winchester, Kentucky, and Homer Osborne of Melvin, Kentucky; several devoted extended family members; and many friends. Jim graduated from Morehead State University in 1960, earned his master's degree at Ball State, and did post graduate work at Southern Mississippi University. Jim served as a U.S. Army tank instructor during the Korean War and actually drove the tank for Audie Murphy during the filming of the movie 'To Hell and Back.' Jim taught five years at Lewisville High School in Indiana prior to returning to his alma mater. He was a faculty member in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at Morehead State University from 1965 until 1996. Following his retirement, he was a part-time professor until 2000. He was active in professional and community activities and especially enjoyed golfing. Always an avid reader, Jim also became an enthusiastic SUDOKO player. He was a long time member of the Church of Christ. Jim and Gaye were exceptionally family oriented and Jim believed his greatest accomplishments were being a devoted husband, daddy and 'Pap.' Funeral services will conducted 2 p.m. Monday, September 24, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Dustin Rose and Mick Saunders officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Pallbearers: Greg Osborne, Gerald Osborne, Donnie Daniels, Mick Saunders, Jack Roe, Brandon Kenney, and Brett Rose. Honorary Pallbearers: Dr. Jack Wilson, Dr. Earl Bentley, Sam Hall, Bryant Willingham, Martin Lafferty, and Roger Lee. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Licking Valley Church of Christ, P. O. Box 7222, Cynthiana, KY 41031. Visitation: Sunday, September 23, 2012, after 2 p.m. Funeral: Monday, September 24, 2012, at 2 p.m. Interment: Lee Cemetery
