Obituary

James Earl 'Jim' Day, age 81, of US 60 East, Morehead, passed away November 19, 2016, at his home. Jim was born February 2, 1935, in Carter County, a son of the late James Willard Day and Eva Davis Day. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his precious daughters, Beverly Sue 'Susie' Taylor and Pamela Dillon of Morehead; stepdaughter, Donna Hubbard of Hazard; stepson, Michael Day of Hazard; and brother, Lowell Gale Day of New Castle, Indiana. Jim is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn Thomas Day; a daughter, Khristy (Jason) Kahrig of Russell; a son, Jay (Teresa) Day of Morehead; two stepsons, Darrell (Amanda) Davis of Morehead and Eddie Davis of Morehead; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. Also surviving are six brothers and sisters, Norma (Charles) Ferrell of Albany, Kentucky, Maggie (Cleo) Sloan of Morehead, Ruth (Thomas) Grace of London, Kentucky, Wendall (Ann) Day of Louisville, Bobby (Karen) Day of Olive Hill, and Donald (Theresa) Day of Indianapolis, Indiana. Other survivors include a host of many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss Jim's joking and laughter that was so 'special' to all of his family and those who knew him. Jim worked at various jobs, but his dream became a reality when he was hired as a 'Bakery Distributor' at a young age. He began building warehouses, resale stores, and distributing products such as cakes, cookies, and many other items to large and small stores throughout central and eastern Kentucky. He loved his work and enjoyed and worked with his employees. Most and best of all, Jim became a devout Christian and began writing. He wrote several beautiful hymns and he and his brothers and sisters (The Day Family) traveled approximately 10 years singing in many churches, reunions, and homecomings in Kentucky and other states. What a wonderful time! Mom and Dad would have been so proud as they raised us in a great Christian home. A bad vehicle accident occurred later and Jim received several serious surgeries, but with God's help and Jim's fight, he recovered tremendously from some of the injuries and was given time to enjoy his family he loved so much. Jim was always the life of the party whenever his family and friends were together. He will be missed very much, but we shall meet again in that beautiful place called 'Heaven' that he has written so much about in his songs. What a day that will be! Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Bro. Bobby Day and Bro. Don Rivers officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery. Pallbearers: Darrell Davis, Eddie Davis, Joe Sloan, Larry Calvert, David King, Michael Day, Chad Day. Honorary pallbearers: Grandsons.
