Jimmy was married to Cindy Pelfrey. He was a loving husband, father, Pappy and friend to all that knew him. Jimmy enjoyed riding his Honda Goldwing Trike, driving his Ford Mustang and attending all events that included his grandchildren, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his "little family."
Jimmy served his country in the Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1970 – 1973 and in the Air Force Reserves until 1976. For many years, he was a Morehead State University police officer and an active volunteer firefighter for the Morehead Fire Department. From February 1986 until January 2025, he served as Unit 535 for the Sandlick Fire Department in Whitesburg, Kentucky. While in Letcher County, Jimmy took pride in being a D.A.R.E. Instructor for the children, stating he would love them forever. He was also a Correctional Officer at Red Onion State Prison and Wallens Ridge State Prison, both in Virginia. To complete his life of serving, he became an organ donor and will continue to give to those in need even after his death.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Pelfrey of Norton, Virginia. Two children: Tracy Todd (April) Pelfrey of Mary Ester, Florida, and Jamala Renee' (Jeremy) Pelfrey of Whitesburg, Kentucky. Two step-children: James Bass and Ciji (Sam) Bass-Harris, both of Norton, Virgina. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Morgan Pelfrey, Jaylah Fuller, Malakye Harris, Khloe Harris, Keighlee Bass, Annebell Bass and Breighlee Bass. One special dear friend and caregiver, Rita Pratt of Jenkins, Kentucky, also survives to mourn his death, along with a host of extended family and friends.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Brian Neil Pelfrey.
