James Edward Brown, age 84, of Nichols Branch, Clearfield, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018 at St. Claire Health Care in Morehead. He was born May 6, 1934, in Elliott County, and was a son of the late Ed and Mary Bowling Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis Brown and Darrin Brown; one brother, Tommy Brown; two grandchildren, Jeremy and Breanna Brown; and a son-in-law, David Davis, Sr. He is survived by one son, Wayne (Tanya) Brown of Morehead, four daughters, Jodie "Judy" Davis of Morehead, Diane (Bobby) Stevens of Clearfield, Darlene Besana of Yuba City, California, and Vickie Scatena of Redwood Valley, California; 12 grandchildren, Lincoln, Nathan, Allie, and Kendall Brown, David, Adam, Harli, and Myli Davis, Tashina Davis Campbell, Brandon Cartwright, Justin Brown, and Lee Howard; and 2 great grandchildren, Jamiah Campbell and Kainleigh Brown. Other survivors include one sister, Carolyn Baldridge of New Port Richey, Florida; companion of 26 years, Belva Dickerson of Wallingford; mother of his children, Berniece Brown Proffitt of Clearfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. James retired from Randall Textron in Flemingsburg and was a member of the New Hope Community Church in Olive Hill. He enjoyed playing bingo, watching westerns, collecting clocks, working on cars and lawnmowers, and coon hunting (especially in his younger years). James stayed busy with everyday projects and loved spending time with his family. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2018, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Rudy Reed and Brother Spike Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery on Stamper Ridge in Elliott County. Pallbearers will be Lincoln Brown, Nathan Brown, David Davis, Adam Davis, John Campbell, and Eric Masters. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Cartwright, Justin Brown, and Lee Howard. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
