Jacquelyn Dorris Layne Sawaya, age 74, of Main Street, Salt Lick, KY, passed away Friday, July 24, 2026, at U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, KY.
Born July 8, 1952, in Grayson, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Jack Douglas Layne and Verna Mae Gilliam Layne. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce Layne and Mitchell Layne; and a son, Richard Sawaya, who passed on September 17, 2024.
She is survived by two sons, Terry Jay Sawaya of Flemingsburg, KY, and Jack Timothy Sawaya of Louisville, KY; six grandchildren, Whitney Cline, Brandon Sawaya, Austin Sawaya, Shyanne Sawaya, Madison Bowman, and Michael Sawaya; and five great-grandchildren.
Other survivors include two brothers, James Homer Layne and Darrell Layne, and two sisters, Alyce Maddix and Soni Conley, all of Olive Hill, KY, special friend, Walter Johnson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Jacquelyn earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Morehead State University and devoted more than 35 years to caring for others as a registered nurse at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington and St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead. She enjoyed reading, cooking, crafting, and making jewelry, but nothing meant more to her than spending time with her devoted family. Her kindness, compassion, and love will be deeply missed, and she will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor David Cooper officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
