Jack Lee
Barber, Sr.
Jan 26, 1935 — Jun 27, 2018
Jack Lee Barber, Sr., 83, of Mt. Sterling, formerly of Morehead, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, in Louisville. Born January 26, 1935, in Pikeville, he was a son of the late Jesse Clay Barber and Alma Clayton Barber. Jack was preceded in death by four siblings, Sue Teyssier, Jesse Clay Barber, Nancy Johnson, and Robert Barber. His surviving sister, Mary Frances Scroggins, lives in Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his two sons, Richard Barber and Brian Barber, both of Louisville; six wonderful grandchildren including Tracey Barber, Shannon Barber, and James Barber, children of his late son, Jack Lee Barber, Jr., and Clay Knight, Noah Barber, and Amelia Barber, children of Richard Barber and Dawn Knight. Jack was a loving father and grandfather who truly enjoyed the times he was able to spend with everyone. Jack was a proud U.S. Marine who served as a Corporal during the Korean War Era. A tireless worker, he was a former manager of Union Grocery in Morehead, plant manager of Square D in Dayton, Ohio, and Chrysler Corporation in Columbia, SC. After retirement, he received great pleasure from canning foods, especially jellies, and aspired to open his own canning business. His enthusiasm continued as an avid basketball fan of the U.K. Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals and traveling to Columbia, South America, to escape the winter weather. Jack lived life to the fullest up to the very end. Visitation will begin at 12 noon Monday, July 2, 2018, with a celebration of life to be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2018, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery with full military honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post 126. Legion members will also serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Semper Fi Fund to assist wounded veterans of all branches of the military. Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
