Obituary

Irvin D. Carpenter, age 74, of Brentwood Drive, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2011, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Born September 2, 1937, in Montgomery County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Jesse Monroe Carpenter and Annie Marie Wilson Carpenter. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Clyde -Red,- Lee, Jesse, and Arnold -Bus- Carpenter, and three sisters, Pearl Vice, Ida Johnson, and Faye Messenbrink. Irvin is survived by his wife, Phyllis Hedger Carpenter; one daughter, Susie Cobb and husband Neil of Brenham, Texas; two stepsons, Jeff Keller of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, and Calvin Keller of Versailles, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Kristal Walters, Eddie Donithan and Brandi Lara ; and five step grandchildren, Andrew, Alex, Jared, Dylan, and Deangela Keller; and great grandchildren, Shaunice Garrett and Hunter Walters. Other survivors include one brother, Rollie Carpenter of Winchester, Kentucky; two sisters, Gertrude Wilson and Helen Kline, both of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews. Irvin was a former employee of Pepsi in Winchester and retired from Cooper Tire in Mt. Sterling. He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing Bluegrass and gospel music, and mowing with the help of his grandson -Eddie.- He was a member of Spring Street Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2011, at Spring Street Baptist Church with Brother John Runyon and Brother Jesse Kline officiating. Burial will follow in Carpenter Cemetery in Bath County. Pallbearers will be Eddie Donithan, Jeff Keller, Calvin Keller, Edwin Burden, Andy Crouch, Jason Crouch, and Arnold Vice. Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Collins, Otis Martin, Joe Hedger, Don Lane, Bill Johnson, and Wally Johnson. Visitation is from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 2011, at the Spring Street Baptist Church in Mt. Sterling. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Spring Street Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, 442 Spring Street, Mt.
