Obituary

Howard B. Haggard, age 82, of Ingram Cemetery Road, Morehead, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. He was born April 3, 1931, in Winchester, a son of the late James Thomas Haggard and Lula Belle Webb Haggard. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Haggard, and one sister, Bonnie Stanfield. Howard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Delma J. Erwin Haggard, whom he married December 3, 1961; one son, Walter E. Haggard of Morehead; and one daughter, Julie A. Haggard of Falmouth. Howard served his country in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force for twenty years, including both the Korean War and Vietnam War, and retired as a MSGT in 1972. He received numerous medals and commendations including the Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Occupational Medal (Germany), National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal w/2 Bronze Stars, RVCM Honor Medal 2nd Class, VSM AFGCM, NDSM w/1BSS, AFLBA w (4) OLC, AFGCM w/ (2) OLC, and RVCM. Following his retirement, he and Delma moved to Morehead where he owned and operated Licking Valley Marine and enjoyed boating and fishing. Always an avid reader, Howard retained this interest throughout his lifetime. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Bowen Chapel Cemetery with military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126 Pallbearers: Joe Ervin, Jack Ervin, Ronnie Bradley, Brent George, Chad Whitman, and Jay Blevins. Honorary Pallbearer: Ronald Maggard Visitation is after 6 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Visitation: Saturday, October 19, 2013, after 6 p.m. Funeral: Sunday, October 20, 2013, at 2 p.m. Interment: Bowen Chapel Cemetery, Carter County
