Hortense Whitt Fannin, age 80, of Hwy. 173, Sandy Hook, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2012, at her residence. She was born February 5, 1932, in Elliott County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Fred and Edith Horton Whitt. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mauverine Kegley and Irene Kidd; and one infant brother, Fred Whitt. She is survived by her husband, Bishop Denzil B. Fannin, whom she married November 4, 1950; one son, James Ishmel Fannin and two daughters, Dorothy Smith and husband Laymond and Betty Jane Winkleman and husband Ricky, all of Elliott County, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Robbie Fannin, David Fannin, Sherry Duncan and Bradley Winkleman; and six great grandchildren, J. T. Fannin, Trevor Fannin, Austin Fannin, Owen Fannin, William Duncan, and Colton Winkleman. Also surviving are one brother, Aubrey Whitt of Morehead, Kentucky; six sisters, Delma Prater of Morehead, Kentucky, Marmette Fannin of West Liberty, Kentucky, Lucille Pennington of Morehead, Kentucky, Louise Pennington of Athens, Ohio, Rebecca Winkleman of Morehead, Kentucky, and Barbara Reynolds of West Liberty, Kentucky; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and numerous friends. Hortense was a former employee of Cowden Manufacturing Company and retired from Morehead State University. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she especially enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, and working in her flowers. She was a member of the Lytten Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at the Lytten Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ with Brothers of the Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Fannin Cemetery. Pallbearers: Robbie Fannin, David Fannin, Bradley Winkleman, J. T. Fannin, Mark Duncan, Leonard Barker, Elder Terry Mays, and Clyde Mays, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers: Trevor Fannin, Austin Fannin, William Duncan, Owen Fannin, and Colton Winkleman. Visitation is after 6 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2012, at the Lytten Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
