Horace Douglas 'Doug' McKenzie, 77, of Vanlandingham Road, Salt Lick, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Doug was born March 16, 1937, in Rowan County a son of the late John Holley McKenzie and Flora Estelle Jones McKenzie. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Avis Johnson and Ann Conn, and four brothers, Charles, John, Larry, and Earl McKenzie. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Joyce Ann Wright McKenzie, whom he wed October 17, 1958, and their daughters, Terrie Crawford and husband Tony of Port St. John, Florida, and Jo Cox and husband Matt of New Castle, Indiana; five grandchildren, Nathan Crawford, Joseph Crawford and wife Karen, Nisha Kokena and husband Justin, Taylor Bearhope and husband Jordan, Kenzie Cox and fianc- Josh Hart; five great grandchildren, Kylee Crawford, Baylee Smith, Aubree Kokena, Carson Kokena, and Addie Bearhope. Other survivors include three brothers, Rev. Guy McKenzie of Salt Lick, Paul Edward McKenzie of Morehead, and Rodney 'Red' McKenzie of Anderson, Indiana; one sister, Brenda Davis of Tipp City, Ohio; extended family members, including his church family; and many friends. Doug was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from Nicholson File in Cullman, Alabama, after 34 years as a supervisor. Following his retirement, he and Joyce returned home to Kentucky. A great outdoorsman, Doug enjoyed all of nature, especially deer hunting and gardening. He was a devout Christian, and devoted husband, father and grandfather who always found time to help others. Doug was a faithful member of Johnson First Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2015, at Johnson First Church of God with Rev. Ben Furman and Rev. Allan Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in New Alfrey Cemetery with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Pallbearers: Kenny Sorrell, Frosty McKenzie, Joe McKenzie, Dale McKenzie, Nathan Crawford, Joseph Crawford Visitation is after 11 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2015, at Johnson First Church of God, 590 Cranston Road, Morehead. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Johnson First Church of God Youth Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
