Her loving husband Byron Emerson Wentz predeceased her after 65 wonderful years of marriage. She was a faithful wife, a wonderful mother, a loving grandmother and a proud great-grandmother. Although she will be greatly missed, her family and friends rejoice that she is no longer suffering and peacefully went home to be with the Lord. Helen Wentz was the office/finance manager for Dr. Wentz-s Morehead optometric practice. Later in life, as a Skin Care and Image Consultant for BeautiControl, Helen shared beauty secrets with women in the Morehead community and earned several sales awards. Mrs. Wentz was a leading member of the Morehead Woman-s Club for more than 50 years and held almost every office, including President. One of three children, she was born in Vaiden, Mississippi on May 25, 1924. Her parents were the late Jewel Gordon Tierce and Joe Thomas Tierce. Her brothers were Joseph Gordon Tierce and Julius Ray Tierce, both deceased. She met her husband Byron at a local USO social. Byron proposed to Helen before he went oversees with the Army Air Corps on February 3, 1943. Byron and Helen were married at Greenwood Methodist Church in Greenwood, Mississippi on July 14, 1945. The couple first lived in Stockton, California, before moving to Hillsboro, Oregon, where Byron attended Optometry School. After graduation they moved to Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, for several years before moving to Morehead in 1957. The Wentzs- retired in 1991 after more than 30 years of service to the Morehead community. Byron and Helen loved to play bridge, dance, travel, and visit with their children, grandchildren, and great-grand children.
