Hazel Fenton Nollau, age 96, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2008, at her home following an extended illness. Born June 15, 1912, in Lexington, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Louis Edward Nollau of Quincy, IL, and Hazel Margaret Fenton Nollau of Detroit, MI. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by two brothers. One brother, Louis Nollau, was disabled at birth and lived a short life; the other, Capt. George F. Nollau, died in the Philippines during World War II and is buried at Ft. McKinley, Manila Cemetery. Survivors include cousins June Fenton Kennedy, Sherrill Livernois and Charles Borchard. Also to cherish her memory will be her former students, attentive caregivers, and many loving and devoted friends. A 1934 and 1935 graduate of the University of Kentucky, Ms. Nollau worked in the Bureau of School Science for the University and then taught at Henry Clay High School in Lexington before moving to Morehead. Ms. Nollau was a science teacher at Morehead State University-s Breckinridge School from 1946 to 1974 when she retired. She was a member of the Rowan County Retired Teachers Association, the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and the National Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of NEA, KEA, AAUW, and Kappa Delta Sorority. She had served as a member of the Kentucky Academy of Science and the Kentucky Junior Academy of Science. Following retirement, Hazel traveled extensively and volunteered at St. Claire Regional Medical Center and the literacy program. She was a member of St. Alban-s Episcopal Church in Morehead where had served as a member of the Bishops Committee and as Chair of the Altar Guild. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2008, at St. Alban-s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Marvin W. Suit and The Rev. Janey Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Visitation is after 10 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2008, at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Alban-s Episcopal Church, 145 East Fifth Street, Morehead, KY 40351 or St. Claire Regional Medical Center, 222 Medical Circle, Morehead, KY 40351. Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
