Hazel Faye Donahue Melton, 73, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, passed away at her home on Saturday, July 12, 2008. Mrs. Melton was born December 1, 1934, in Paragon, Kentucky, the daughter of Crystal and Lorean Staton Donahue. She married Lawrence B. Melton on January 10, 1972, in Clintwood, VA. Hazel leaves behind her beloved husband Larry (Bennie) Melton; a daughter, Deonna Schreiber and husband David; one brother, John and wife Debbie Donahue; three sisters, Etta Mae Brown, Wanda Gilley, and Naomi (Moore) and husband Lloyd Harris all of Morehead, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Tammy Jo Barber of DuQuoin, Illinois, Artie Highfill and Davina Overbey and husband Brad; six great grandchildren, Trent, Tyler and Trevor Barber, Tylyn and Luther Highfill and Rayleigh Overbey, all of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; several nieces and nephews also survive and her long-time best friend Betty (Lueke) Keller of Valier, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mary and Martha Donahue. Hazel loved to play bingo, go to the casino, and collect all kinds of dolls. She loved animals especially dogs and horses. She was a member of the Old Timer's Car Club and also a member of Moose Lodge and the VFW of Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Hazel was a very uplifting person and always loved to be surrounded by her family and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mark Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in Clearfield Cemetery.
