Hazel Madgeline Gilliam Smoot, age 82, of Greenville School Road, Greenville, Virginia, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2007, at her residence. Born May 19, 1924, in Carter County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Green and Cora Waddell Gilliam. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ottis Gilliam. Her husband, Ivory Smoot, passed away March 18, 2003. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Darby Michael and Kathy Smoot of Greenville, Virginia; one daughter and son-in-law, Gwendolyn and Robert Clark Necessary of Davin, West Virginia; two grandchildren, Jill Necessary and Devin Smoot; two brothers, Ray Gilliam and Michael Gilliam, both of Morehead, Kentucky; one sister, Freda Cartwright of Morehead, Kentucky, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Smoot was a homemaker and a member of the Brinegar Church. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Don Rivers officiating. Burial will be in the Manning Chapel Cemetery in Carter County, Kentucky. Serving as pallbearers are David Gilliam, Paul Gilliam, Danny Ray Gilliam, Vaughn Gilliam, Jim Barker, and Willard Calvert. Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Visitation: Thursday, April 12, 2007, after 6:00 p.m. Funeral: Friday, April 13, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. Interment: Manning Chapel Cemetery in Carter County, Kentucky
