Hayward Hook, age 81, of KY 801 South, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2009, at his residence. He was born June 17, 1927, in Rowan County, Kentucky, son of the late Charles Walter and Nancy Susan Boggs Hook. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bert, Glenn, and Clarence Hook, and two sisters, Esther Ellington and Carrie Strong. Also, a daughter, Stephanie Hook, passed away in 1955. Hayward is survived by his wife of 55 years, June Ball Hook, whom he married August 8, 1953; two sons, David Hook and Rebecca Smith of Milton, West Virginia, and her daughter Kimberly also of Milton and Dan and Jenny Hook of Morehead, Kentucky, and their expected child in August, Haydan Cameron Hook. Other survivors include two brothers, John Hook of Morehead, Kentucky, and Edward Hook of Bellingham, Washington, and two sisters, Edna Hardman of Dayton, Ohio, and Virginia Grippen of Endicott, New York. Hayward was a Rowan County businessman and also owned several farms in Rowan and Fleming counties. He was the former owner of Hook Lumber in Morgan and Rowan counties, and former co-owner of Hooks', Lines & Sinkers. He is the current owner of Captain Hook-s Storage and Lakeview Motel on Cave Run Lake. He enjoyed visiting country stores, watching football, and talking Republican politics. Hayward was a member of Kentucky Farm Bureau and Kentucky and National Republican Party Associations. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Roger Ball, Brother Tracy Fannin and Pastor Wade Muncy officiating. Burial will follow in New Alfrey Cemetery. Pallbearers: Dan Hook, David Hook, Mike Pack, Curt Hutchinson, Gary Lewis II, Mike Tackett, Bill Pigman, and Danny Warren. Honorary pallbearers: Randolph Reed, Dean Ball, and Tim Ball. Visitation for Hayward Hook is after 5 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Claire Hospice, 222 Medical Circle, Morehead Visitation: Monday, January 26, 2009, after 5 p.m. Funeral: Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at 11 a.m. Interment: ew Alfrey Cemetery
