Obituary

Harry Charles McFarland, age 78, of Wright Road, Salt Lick, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at his residence. Born July 12, 1936, in Akron, Ohio, he was a son of the late Keith and June Luce McFarland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Couch, and maternal grandmother, Stella Luce. Harry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Wanda Day McFarland, whom he married June 29, 1974; one son, Brian (Michelle) McFarland of Lawrenceburg; one brother, Bud (Hazel) McFarland of Parkersburg, West Virginia; one sister, April (Pete) Oppenheimer of Seminole, Florida; and three brothers-in-law, Clifford Couch of Clermont, Florida, Gene (Blanche) Day of Salt Lick, and Bill (Kathy) Day of Young Harris, Georgia. Harry served in the U.S. Marine Corps for eight years and retired from the Cabinet for Human Resources in Lexington after serving the Commonwealth of Kentucky for 25 years. He was a chef in all of the Kentucky State Parks facilities as well as for Governors John Y. Brown and Bert Combs. He loved Lionel electric trains and collecting die cast model cars and trucks. He was also passionate about caring for all kinds of animals. Harry was a member of the Midland First Church of God. A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2015, at the Midland First Church of God with Bro. Bush Stevenson and Bro. Guy McKenzie officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery in Midland with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Midland First Church of God, Building Fund, 11479 E Hwy 60, Salt Lick, KY 40371 or Sylvia's Animal Sanctuary, P.O. Box 1124, Salt Lick, KY 40371. Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
