Harry Edward Barnes, Jr., 75, of East Clack Mountain Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center. He was born August 6, 1936, in McRoberts, Kentucky, to the late Harry Barnes, Sr., and Maxine MacReynolds Barnes. Harry is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Adams Barnes, whom he married September 29, 1962; two daughters, Amy (Mark) Accettura of Detroit, Michigan, and Beth Barnes of Morehead, Kentucky; and four grandsons, Alex Travis, Austin Accettura, Evan Accettura, and Dawson Barnes. Harry was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired as a Sergeant from the Detroit Police Department, Detroit, Michigan, in 1988. During his 25 years in law enforcement, Harry served on the Crime Investigation Force and was also an Instructor at the Detroit Police Academy. He and Ann moved to Rowan County, Kentucky, following his retirement. Harry was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Detroit and the Kentucky Long Rifle Association. He enjoyed the outdoors, collecting antiques, and watching sports, especially U.K. basketball. Harry-s greatest joy came from his devoted family whom he deeply loved. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until noon on Friday, May 25, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with a celebration of his life to be held by family and friends at noon. Burial will follow at the Barnes Family Cemetery on East Clack Mountain Road with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
