Obituary

Harlan 'P. Joe' Carter, Jr., age 69, of Hill-N-Dale, Morehead, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead after suffering an apparent heart attack. Born May 30, 1947, in West Liberty, he was a son of the late Harlan and Elizabeth Ferguson Carter. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Larry 'Tardy' Carter, and two sisters, Eva Carter McClain and Ella Mae Carter Stamper. P. Joe is survived by his wife of 48 years, Wanda McClain Carter, whom he married September 28, 1968; one son, Joe Carter (Amy Little) of Morehead; two daughters, Mary Carter and Ella Carter, both of Morehead; three grandchildren, Brandon 'Bluegill' Loper, Katlyn 'Georgia Peach' Carter, and Harlan 'Big Guy' Carter; and his faithful and loving dog, Sparky. Also surviving are two sisters, Carolyn McClain and Shirley Moore(Michael), all of Morehead; four brothers, Wayne 'Teeny' Carter (Eva), Tommy Carter (Connie), and Paul Carter (Trish), all of Morehead, and Carl Carter (Ann) of Bellville, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. He was a retired pallet shop foreman of Fannin Industries. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, watching the wildlife from his window, and mowing and caring for his yard. P. Joe's greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and following his grandchildren's activities, especially their ballgames. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Jeff Stamper and Brother Jeff McClain officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brandon Loper, Harlan Carter, Katlyn Carter, Mark Moore, Mike Masters, Bob McClain, David McClain, Tony Bill McClain, and Danny McClain. Honorary Pallbearers will be his brothers, Wayne Carter, Tommy Carter, Paul Carter, Carl Carter, and faithful friend, Woodie Wilson. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
