Gretta Ann Brown Duncan, age 84, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2023, at her home.

She was born August 5, 1939, in Ashland, Kentucky, to Ray Otis and Georgia Frances Brown. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John Richard Duncan, who was the love of her life.

Gretta is survived by her daughter, Laura Lee and her grandchildren, Elijah Duncan O'Connell, Wiley Duncan and Jon Dooley Duncan. Gretta is also survived by her brother, Jack Brown and wife, Vicki Green Brown, and nieces Rebecca Oney and Jackie Brown and their children. She is also survived by her dear friends, especially lifelong friend, Carole Pierce.

Gretta graduated from University Breckinridge Training School.  She completed a Bachelor's and a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education at Morehead State University. She was a beloved kindergarten teacher at University Breckinridge School and went on to teach elementary education at MSU for many years.

In her later life, she had many interests: her integral participation in the United Methodist Church, her lifelong friends, her humanitarian spirit for everyone, and most recently, preserving the stories of her life through sharing her writings and memories. She was the embodiment of light and positivity, and she brought those amazing qualities to all that she did.

She was devoted to her family, her friends and the church. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

Visitation will be at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals (400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351) on Sunday, December 3, 2023, beginning at 12 noon. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Eric Espada officiating. The service will be live streamed at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Facebook page beginning at 2 p.m.

Burial will follow at Lee Cemetery in Morehead.  Pallbearers: Mike Pierce, Kaden Pierce, Josh Green, Johnny Ray Green, Tyler Brown, Mitch Brown, Jamie Oney, Larry Crosthwaite Jr.

Honorary Pallbearers: John Gabriel Brown, Jackson Cole Simmons, Joslyn Mae Simmons, Kason Ray Brown, Anna Reese Oney, Ava Francis Oney.

Dinner will be served at the United Methodist Church for family and out of town guests.
